American Indian Search was created by Joseph Brown Thunder,(Ho-chunk/Lakota Oglala),  who has been developing business solutions since 1991. To maximize the use of Indian-owned businesses, he developed his own directory of native groups and businesses. Realizing the directory would be a valuable assest to Indian-owned businesses, Tribes, and the general public, in 2006 he enlisted some friends to build a directory encompassing all Indian-owned businesses.

AIS is a directory that allows users and businesses the chance to find one another and establish business connections. The mission of AIS is "Keeping tribal dollars in tribal communities." AIS allows American Indian businesses and groups, both small and large, an opportunity to list their group on a centralized web page.
